Digital Brands Group released initial results from an AI-enabled brand-protection deployment with retro backpack brand Herschel Supply Co., demonstrating how AI can fight counterfeiting and unauthorized sales.

These results are from a previously announced partnership with Secur3d to use its AssetSafe platform, which scans digital channels for the unapproved use of brand assets.

The platform identifies counterfeit products, unauthorized sellers and trademark infringements, helping to address a growing challenge in the retail industry. More than twenty-six percent of all counterfeit product seizures in 2023 involved apparel and accessories, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

During the initial search phase for Herschel, the platform identified counterfeit activity that resulted in an estimated loss of over $500,000 due to unauthorized listings and brand misuse, highlighting the financial implications of counterfeiting.

More traditional enforcement models rely more on manual detection and reactive removal. By utilizing AI, the platform can continually analyze, scan and prioritize risks, enabling brands to respond efficiently and proactively.

Other brands have used AI to combat counterfeiting, including Lacoste, which was the first company to test Cypheme's technology to identify fake products through visual analysis. According to Cypheme, the technology achieved 99.7% accuracy in analyzing Lacoste’s iconic crocodile logo to detect fakes, enabling the company to remove the product from the market once identified.
