Unilever continued down its health-minded future path with the acquisition of Onnit, a holistic wellness and lifestyle company best known for its nutritional supplements.

The Austin, TX-based Onit was founded in 2010 under a “360-degree philosophy” of achieving optimal health and wellbeing through physical fitness, mental performance and emotional wellness. Its products include a brain supplement for better memory known as Alpha Brain, as well other nutrition and fitness products and a digital content platform.

Peter ter Kulve, Unilever president of home care and health and wellbeing, described Onnit as a leading brand in the fast-growing nootropics segment, noting that it would complement the No. 6 consumer goods company’s growing portfolio of innovative wellness and supplement brands. Other like-minded wellness brands owned by Unilever include OLLY, Equilibra and Liquid I.V., as well as the recently acquired SmartyPants Vitamins.

“As a dynamic and purpose-led brand, Unilever is strongly aligned with Onnit’s vision to improve the health and wellness of consumers with scientifically proven solutions,” added Fabian Garcia, president of Unilever North America.

Jason Havey will stay in place as Onnit CEO, and the company will remain based in Austin. Aubrey Marcus, Onit founder, will continue in his role as a brand ambassador.
