Nestlé Opens High-Tech Distribution Center in California
Nestlé USA has opened its largest, most tech-advanced distribution center so far.
The 700,000-square-foot facility in Arvin, California — a $330 million investment — supports fulfillment operations for brands such as Toll House, Coffee Mate and Gerber.
It uses targeted automation to support high product demand during peak seasons. Additionally, it implements the largest automated storage and retrieval system within Nestlé’s global network, which will manage shelf-stable products through the production cycle with improved accuracy.
The company said this type of automation is designed to enhance the frontline employee experience while reducing repetitive and physically demanding tasks and keeping safety at the forefront.

As part of Nestlé's sustainability goals, the Arvin facility aims to source its electricity from renewable sources, including solar and wind power. Nestlé also plans for it to be zero-waste — it will recycle, compost or recover energy from materials rather than filling landfills. The facility is expected to onboard more than 110 high-skilled workers.
This is the second high-tech distribution center Nestlé has opened in the U.S. in the last two years, following its beverage factory and distribution center in Glendale, Arizona.
The launch is part of Nestlé's 2020 strategy to invest $25 million in its U.S. operations over 10 years. It has included strengthening manufacturing and distribution operations through digital investments across the supply chain, as well as enhancements in R&D.
“Our investment in the new Arvin distribution center reflects how we’re building Nestlé for the future, modernizing our supply chain and delivering for our customers and consumers with greater speed and precision,” Marty Thompson, Nestlé USA CEO, said in a statement. “This state-of-the-art, digitally enabled facility enhances our ability to meet growing demand across our portfolio and reinforces our long-term commitment to investing and growing in the United States.”
