Pop culture and toy company Funko has named a new leader

Josh Simon will join the company as chief executive officer starting Sept. 1, succeeding Mike Lunsford. 

Simon will oversee Funko's portfolio of brands, including Funko, Loungefly and Mondo, which manufacture products such as vinyl figures, micro-collectibles, fashion accessories, apparel, action toys, high-end art and music collectibles.

Charles Denson, chairman of the board, said in a statement that Simon was hired for his extensive experience in entertainment and consumer products.

“He brings expertise in operations, licensing and strategy, gained while serving in senior leadership roles at such esteemed companies as Netflix, Nike and The Walt Disney Company,” Denson added.

More About Simon

Simon was most recently at Netflix, where he spent more than five years, last serving as its vice president of consumer products. As part of that role, he oversaw the company’s global merchandise business and launched its first e-commerce platform for consumer products, managing retailer relationships such as Walmart, Target and Primark.

Prior to Netflix, Simon held several senior management roles at Nike, including VP and head of global strategy for product, design, merchandising and categories. 

He also co-founded health and wellness company Function Drinks. There, he oversaw sales, marketing, operations, HR, finance and investor relations, according to LinkedIn.  He ultimately sold the company to food and beverage company Sunsweet Grocers.
