Top 10 Online Retailers
Contrary to what you might believe in these recessionary times, brand loyalty proves to be quite strong in a new ranking of the top 50 online retailers. Now in its fourth year, the STORES Favorite 50 is based on the perceptions of retailers' harshest and most important critic -- the consumer.
In June 2010, BIGresearch collected responses from 8,486 consumers. Rankings were based on the total number of responses to the following open-ended questions: "What Web site do you shop most often for apparel items?" and "What Web site do you shop most often for non-apparel items?" No merchant's names were listed or suggested. The final list was assembled by ranking online companies in order of total mentions.
The top 10 e-retailers that online shoppers prefer the most held onto their rankings from a year ago, a few new companies debuted and others returned. The Top 10 are as follows:
1. Amazon.com
2. Walmart.com
3. eBay.com
4. BestBuy.com
5. JCPenney.com
6. Target.com
7. Kohls.com
8. Google.com
9. Overstock.com
10. Sears.com
A few newcomers found their way into people's wallets and onto the list this year, including Express.com (No. 38), Aéropostale (No. 47) and Nike.com (No. 50). Meanwhile, BananaRepublic.com (No. 48) is back after a one-year absence.
