Molson Coors Beverage Co. has named Rahul Goyal its top leader.

Goyal was promoted to the role of CEO after serving as chief strategy officer.

Goyal will take on the role on Oct. 1. Gavin Hattersley will step down to serve in an advisory role until the end of the year.

Hattersley was credited with helping to grow the Miller business and launching the MillerCoors U.S. joint venture in 2008. He also initiated a Revitalization Plan and subsequent Acceleration Plan to return the company to growth.

The succession plan included an internal and external candidate review process.

Ultimately, the board hired Goyal for his strong institutional knowledge due to the long tenure with the company and new thinking with a focus on future growth, according to a statement from chair David Coors.

“Rahul has delivered meaningful growth in new spaces for the company thanks to his ability to build partnerships that align with the company’s strategic priorities,” said board vice chair Geoff Molson in a statement. “On top of that, he leads with authenticity and integrity and has built deep trust both inside and outside of Molson Coors, while igniting passion around our transformation journey.”
