Over 90% of Gen Z respondents said they use two or more AI tools on a weekly basis.

Business use of generative AI is expected to increase rapidly as a new generation of leaders embraces the technology, according to a study conducted by The Harris Poll for Google.

The study, conducted on behalf of Google Workspace, which leverages artificial intelligence with its products, took the pulse of U.S.-based knowledge workers ages 22-39 who either are currently in or seek to hold leadership positions at their company.

Within this, they found 82% were already using AI tools and nearly all of them expected AI to impact their industry or company within the next five years.

The percentage was skewed generationally, with 93% of Gen Z respondents and 79% of millennials saying they use two or more AI tools on a weekly basis.

The respondents were primarily employing the technology to improve their communication and boost productivity, with 88% saying that AI can help them strike the right tone when writing an email and that they use AI to help them start tasks that could otherwise feel overwhelming.

Half of the respondents thought that AI could help them automate routine tasks, leaving them free to focus on more challenging projects.

They also felt the technology made it easier for them to work from anywhere, with 90% saying they’d feel more confident joining a meeting on the go if an AI assistant was taking notes and 87% believing that AI’s email writing features made it easier to compose lengthy communications on their phones.

When it came to communicating across teams in multiple locations, 47% of respondents felt AI could help them build better relationships and improve problem solving.

Beyond helping with their day-to-day duties, 86% of respondents felt that AI could help them become better managers. These young leaders are also eager to share their AI success stories, with 75% suggesting their peers try the technology and 50% regularly talking to colleagues about how they use it.

Yulie Kwon Kim, Google Workspace's VP of product, said the research shows emerging leaders are adopting AI to increase their impact at work.

"Rising leaders are not simply using AI as a tool for efficiency, but as a catalyst to help grow their careers,” noted Kim in a statement.
