Ethical Bean, the fair-trade and organic coffee roaster that includes a QR code on every bag to facilitate traceability, has expanded its footprint within the United States.

Co-founded by Lloyd Bernhardt and Kim Schachte in Canada, Ethical Bean’s coffee is 100% fair-trade and USDA-certified organic. The imprinted QR codes enable consumers to use their smartphones to learn which fair-trade co-op their coffee is from, as well as when it was roasted, for how long, at what temperature, and how the coffee scores on sweetness, body, acidity and more.

Walmart, Amazon and select grocery stores will now carry 8-ounce and 12-ounce bags.

“Being transparent about every coffee's journey is a unique part of our process, and we want to share our passion for detail and quality with those who care just as much about their morning cup of coffee as we do,” said Viren Malik, Ethical Bean Coffee COO. “We’re proud to introduce the Ethical Bean brand on a national scale in the U.S. to show coffee lovers how our coffee really is just better.”
