Home and commercial fitness company Echelon is elevating its member experience through a personalized, generative AI-powered platform called Echelon Intelligence.

Working with Amazon Web Services’ Bedrock AI models, the workout company is now able to integrate machine learning and AI capabilities into its content to create customized fitness experiences for consumers across a variety of equipment like treadmills, bikes, and rowers, creating what it calls an “immersive fitness ecosystem.”

The AI analyzes members’ fitness goals and preferences and considers historical workout data, then uses the data to create personalized training programs that recommend specific classes, exercise routines, and instructors. Additionally, members get access to intelligent schedule management through a conversational AI interface and real-time progress tracking and optimization suggestions.

Consumer Response

John Santo, co-founder and chief product and technology officer of Echelon, said in a statement that AI is transforming how members interact with the company’s content library. According to early testing data, the effort could increase Echelon and commercial gym member retention by at least 7%.

The integration includes Echelon equipment in gyms and also its machines owned by consumers for home workouts, creating a more engaging, intelligent experience no matter where people workout, according to the company’s CEO Lou Lentine.

According to a Bain & Company report, half of study respondents said they see great potential in new generative AI tools, though willingness to provide relevant personal data in exchange for meaningful generative AI personalization varies depending upon the type of data being requested.
