The Consumer Brands Association has appointed Linda Rendle, CEO of The Clorox Company, to serve as chair of the Consumer Brands Association board of directors, while Mark Smucker, chair of the board, president, and CEO of The J.M. Smucker Co., will serve as vice chair, effective January 1.

Rendle has been a member of the Consumer Brands board since 2020, taking up the role of vice chair in 2022. Rendle is set to take over from Jeff Harmening, who currently serves as the chairman and CEO of General Mills.

“I’m honored to serve as chair of the Consumer Brands Board of Directors as we focus on telling the story of an industry that makes the brands and products that consumers trust and rely on every day,” Rendle shared.

Rendle has been with Clorox since 2003, moving up the ranks in various executive leadership roles before becoming CEO in 2020.

“I’m thrilled to partner with Linda as we convey the industry’s vital importance to consumers and work to strengthen America’s supply chains, champion smart and modern regulatory policy and pave the way for new recycling and sustainability solutions,” David Chavern, president and CEO of Consumer Brands said of the new appointment.

Chavern, who assumed the role of leader at the start of the year, recently outlined some of the associations’ key priorities. These include enhancing consumer connections through data and analytics, supply chain resilience, exploring retail media network opportunities, and bolstering sustainability efforts through improved recycling systems and packaging innovations.

Overall, Chavern says the goal is to elevate and reiterate the importance of the consumer goods industry more broadly, particularly following pandemic-era volatility. “We're kind of in this post-COVID period of getting back to growing the organization, growing our impact, taking on big, long-term issues for the industry,” explained Chavern at the time.
