In an attempt to create a connected pet home, Wagz has acquired Smart Pet LLC’s Link AKC smart collar.
The collar, offered in a variety of sizes, will be added to the Wagz portfolio along with Link's six employees — including Heberto Calves, who will serve as the company’s chief growth officer.
Wagz has been developing and launching pet tech while investing in complementary connected products.
“Wagz has amazing momentum and we just took another big step forward in our efforts to deliver a fully connected pet lifestyle,” said chief executive officer Terry Anderton. “The technical experience and brand growth at Link AKC is a powerful addition to the Wagz family. We look forward to integrating [the company] into the Wagz ecosystem as we fulfill our vision of making it easier for pet parents to better understand their best friends and provide the best life for them.”
“Smart Pet is committed to the health and well-being of every dog,” said CEO Dennis Sprung. “The acquisition ... will help improve the bond between dogs and owners through enhancements in pet technology.”
The Link AKC smart collar and supporting app launched in May 2017. The stylish GPS-enabled device keeps track of pet location, activity and health, while offering remote sound and light for training and the ability to share, save or record walks.
This is the second acquisition for Wagz, following pet treat dispenser pioneer Petzila earlier this summer. The company also recently launched the Serve Smart Feeder, a food delivery system that delivers the right amount of food at the right time based on activity levels and automatically re-orders food with integrated Amazon Dash Replenishment.
