Under Armour Preps for Next Phase of Robot Workforce: Humanoid Apparel
Apparel company Under Armour is setting its sights on the future of AI-enabled workforces, creating performance wear for humanoid robots that might have to operate in demanding environments.
The company is working with Persona AI in a research and development collaboration to test the tech company's robots with Under Armour gear that can withstand hazardous material handling, extreme heat exposure from activities such as welding and overall longevity in heavy manufacturing settings.
Under Armour will consider how external material layers can enhance robots' durability, thermal regulation and overall performance in real-world work environments. It will test different textiles under various conditions, including heat, friction and repetitive motion.

The companies said the effort hopes to reduce manual processes and improve safety for human workers.
“This is an opportunity to apply our innovation expertise in a new context,” said Kyle Blakely, SVP of innovation with Under Armour's design studio, development and testing teams.
“Robotics presents a fascinating new design challenge, and we aim to play a leading role in shaping performance solutions for these environments," Blakely said in the statement. "As humanoid systems take on more physically demanding roles, we see real potential to create new market opportunities, and we’re exploring how concepts like thermal management, abrasion resistance, and flexibility translate beyond sport."
