Tic Tac Launches New Packaging
In an effort to markedly reduce its carbon footprint, Ferrero U.S.A. announces the roll out of new packaging for the entire line of Tic Tac mints. The brand is now available in polypropylene packaging, a flexible material that is more readily recyclable and leaves a considerably smaller carbon footprint. In addition, the new Tic Tac boxes, which retain the distinctive transparent packaging and sound of the "Tic Tac shake," will carry a statement encouraging consumers to "Please Recycle" and "Be Green."
"The Tic Tac brand is dedicated to implementing responsible practices across its operations that are respectful of the environment," says Tic Tac brand manager Jim Morris of Ferrero U.S.A. Inc. "We encourage consumers to incorporate 'reduce, reuse, and recycle' activities into their daily lives, and to that end have printed a call-to-action on our packages asking consumers to be green and please recycle the packaging after they have enjoyed their mints."
As a result of the switch to polypropylene from polystyrene plastics, the brand is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 44 percent and energy use by 34 percent. By implementing the new packaging across the entire line, Tic Tac will reduce its plastic use by 296 tons a year.
To ensure that consumers know where to recycle the packages, which carry a resin identification code of five (5), the Tic Tac brand has partnered with Earth911, an online destination for recycling information. Consumers can visit www.tictacusa.com to find local recycling centers that accept polypropylene plastics and learn more about the new packaging.
