Tata Consumer Products Taps Forecasting Tool to Improve Tea Blending

Tea company Tata Consumer Products Limited is optimizing the procurement of raw materials used in its teas and improving planning for the blending process.

It is working with supply chain planning company Arkieva to help forecast the availability and prices of components used to make its teas. 

The planning tool, which uses both optimization capabilities and forecasting models, will help Tata use the appropriate ratios on a weekly basis as it looks to develop its blends with the right characteristics while minimizing costs. Swaminathan T V, global chief digital officer at Tata Consumer Products, said the company sought a solution that was user-friendly and featured a pragmatic approach to planning.

Within the next few weeks, the company will go live with the technology with the goal of improving customer service by better gauging supply and demand.

Its brands include Tata Tea in India, Tetley in Canada and the United Kingdom, and Good Earth Tea in the U.S. TCPL packs its tea in India and the United Kingdom. Beyond tea, TCPL’s portfolio also includes spices, coffee, breakfast cereals, and snack foods that reach more than 201 million households around the world.
