Nestle Launches New App

Nestle aims to back its drive in technology by launching a new application for iPads and iPhones.

The company's first corporate app aims to keep investors and the media connected with online and offline access to the latest news, press releases, reports, presentations and a weekly share buy-back update. Since its official launch on Oct. 22, 2010, nearly 1,000 users have downloaded the application worldwide, in countries such as the United States, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Brazil and France.

Nestle Investor Relations -- who funded the application -- kick-started the idea in July, working in alliance with Nestle Corporate Media Relations; while external agency Sogeti India led development of the app from August.

Roddy Child-Villiers, head of Investor Relations at Nestle, explains the importance for such an application and says: "It was not created in response to an identified demand. Rather the app anticipated a need amongst the Nestle community in the financial markets. Our feedback suggests that it is proving to be a hit as an efficient tool for our target audience."

Peter Warne, head of e-Communications at Nestle, adds: "We've had a mobile Web site for more than a year and now the app for iPhones and iPads complements this.

Once connected to Wi-Fi, the app automatically loads the latest information when opened, including large PDF files such as the Nestle Annual Report. If connected to a 3G mobile network, users can choose whether or not to download these files. All this content is stored and can be accessed when offline.

The Nestle app continuously supports the company's efforts to improve solutions, development and implementation, while maintaining value added and business relevant solutions. Nestle is looking into development of the application for other mobile platforms including Android and Blackberry.
