Nestlé to Bolster Food, Beverage R&D With Deep Tech Center
Nestlé is creating a new center dedicated to deep technology innovation as part of its efforts to strengthen its research and development (R&D) operations.

The new facility will advance food and beverage R&D through cutting-edge biotechnology and clinical research, leading to new nutritional offerings such as products focused on weight management. Areas of focus will include precision fermentation and evolved clinical research.
The center, being built at the Nestlé System Technology Center in Orbe, Switzerland, will tap into artificial intelligence and virtual/mixed reality to help expedite and bolster research operations. Additionally, the company expects to develop smart coffee machines, self-controlling equipment and more dynamic quality assurance protocols. New tech capabilities will include sensors, robots and coding systems.

"These new capabilities in biotech and deep tech will fuel growth by meeting changing consumer needs and accelerating the digital transformation of Nestlé,” Laurent Freixe, CEO of Nestlé S.A, said in a statement. Freixe added that the company will drive more focused innovation and growth through new efficiencies.
The company expects to increase operational agility, focus its project portfolio and create a leaner R&D organization. The deep tech center is set to open in the first half of 2026.
