La-Z-Boy is investing in technology to bring its furniture to life via its e-commerce experience. Website visitors will now be able to see a 3D configuration of La-Z-Boy products, with myriad customization options, to get a better idea of style and fit before visiting a physical retail store.

The new tech is part of La-Z-Boy’s Century Vision plan, in which the company is looking to invest in several innovative shopping and brand tools across online and in-store environments in order to lead with a consumer-first approach.

The app-less augmented reality technology leverages Marxent’s 3D Cloud WebAR platform, making over 29 million potential configurations available to consumers. They will be able to see in real-time different customization options from all angles, with the ability to download the final image as a JPG or PNG.

The company expects to add QR code support for desktop users later this year.

Additionally, the technology helps to support the company’s professional customers, giving designers access to customizable floorplans with photorealistic 3D renderings.

"AR is table stakes for today's furniture shopper. La-Z-Boy customers love it, so we set out to provide AR for every buyable option in our highly configurable catalog," said Jill Brown Thomas, senior director of digital commerce at La-Z-Boy, in a statement.

"The 3D Cloud product experience platform and 3D Cloud Product Configurator make personalization at scale easy. Shoppers can configure their desired products from millions of possible combinations and preview them in AR without any catalog knowledge and without an app," Brown Thomas added.
