Walmart is looking to streamline its sourcing processes by tapping into an enterprise platform that leverages technology to bring together disparate systems and improve collaboration with its supplier partners.

The company is working with Bamboo Rose to introduce new efficiencies across sourcing, streamlining supply chain tasks and eliminating waste in categories like perishable goods. The technology will be implemented across all Walmart and Sam’s Club business units.

The initiative should help elevate collaboration with buyers, product development teams, and suppliers, introducing increased visibility so Walmart associates can make more informed purchasing decisions related to volume and cost.

Daniel Berg, VP of product global sourcing at Walmart, said the enterprise sourcing platform will help improve business and therefore help customers save money.

"I'm thrilled to be able to work with Bamboo Rose to develop a brand-new ecosystem connecting our global teams with a single platform, empowering us to go beyond simply streamlining information,” Berg added.

“With this technology, we'll be able to engage with suppliers across multiple growth stages, expand global offerings and make more efficient decisions.”

The investment is the latest in a round of supply chain improvements the company is making, with the company stating shoppers will reap the rewards this holiday season.

Over the last few years, Walmart has expanded its reach to nearly 90% of the U.S. population with next- or two-day shipping, growing its fulfillment center network to support this initiative and implementing several transportation enhancements.

Walmart has also tapped artificial intelligence to power inventory management, better positioning the company to respond to fluctuations in consumer demand and bolstering shelf availability and order accuracy.
