Under Armour Expands Smart Shoe Line

Sneaker IQ has gone up a few notches.

Under Armour unveiled its newest UA Record Equipped running shoes, which are intended to provide runners with the digital tools they need to understand recovery and maximize performance.

The new shoes are powered by MapMyRun, Under Armour's proprietary mobile app and global digital running community. The shoes are equipped with new features that arm runners with enhanced tracking capabilities such as cadence, real-time pace information and even the mileage lifetime of the shoe. It also provides pre-workout information about muscular fatigue levels and, as an added benefit, will never need a recharge.

The line will be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, along with other soon-to-launch performance-based products. The company will begin taking pre-orders on its website on Jan. 5.

Under Armour released its first smart shoe earlier this year. Footwear is a major growth driver for the company, which hopes to more than double the number of units of "Connected Footwear" worldwide in 2017 via distribution to North America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and its first push into greater China.
