Mondelēz International is launching a $50 million state-of-the-art facility in Whippany, New Jersey that will help scale and support growth for the company’s snacking division.

The new global research and development innovation center will elevate the company’s product, process, and packaging development for its snack brands, including Oreo, Ritz, and Sour Patch Kids.

The new center will bring together more than 40 R&D employees from across Mondelez’s North America and global locations to support innovation in electric baking tech, moving the company closer to its 2050 goal of net zero emissions.

The new footprint expands Mondelez’s presence in New Jersey, which also houses the company’s North American headquarters.

According to Norberto Chaclin, global SVP, R&D Biscuits and Baked Snacks at Mondelēz International, the company’s R&D team is passionate about pioneering innovations, improving production processes, and creating new consumer-favorite products.

“With this new center now open, our team is well-positioned to set the standard for future snacking innovations around the world from right here in New Jersey,” said Chaclin.

“This strategic investment in our new global innovation center will enable us to pilot exciting new snacking breakthroughs and bring about the next generation of innovation for Mondelēz snacks around the world,” said Daniel Ramos,EVP and chief research and development officer at Mondelēz International.

“We’re proud to bring together industry-leading talent and capabilities in this facility to create new products, packaging, and process developments across our portfolio of beloved snacks,” added Ramos.
