Lindt & Spruengli Considers Godiva Acquisition
Swiss chocolate maker Lindt & Spruengli AG has expressed interest to acquire the Godiva line of chocolate from Campbell Soup Company, according to an article in the Financial Times Deutschland. Lindt & Spruengli's Chief Executive Ernst Tanner is quoted as saying that the company was eyeing acquisitions to boost its position as a premium chocolate producer. The company will make a final decision only after conducting a review of Godiva. In August 2007, Campbell Soup Company announced that it would explore strategic alternatives, including possible divestiture, for its Godiva Chocolatier business. The decision followed a review of Campbell 's portfolio as part of the company's ongoing strategic planning process.
