Estée Lauder is fostering the next generation of consumer goods professionals, hosting STEM-related events where local children and teens in Long Island, New York, get an inside look into the company’s science and technology efforts.

The events showcase the tech behind Estée Lauder’s beauty products, looking to spark interest in possible STEM-related careers through hands-on activities related to natural ingredients, product filling, product formulation, package design, packaging sustainability, and 3D design.

The company also uses these events to gather valuable consumer insights on its beauty products by recruiting for its clinical study panels.

"We are passionate about teaching the children in our local community about the science behind beauty and all of the chemistry, biology, and engineering that goes into making our products," said Simona Sitarus, director of R&D product formulation, in a statement. “We want to get everyone excited about science and help educate our future STEM talent right here on Long Island.”

Sparking Future STEM Careers

Estée Lauder also provides networking and growth opportunities for a next-gen workforce via its applied learning program for students at Farmingdale State College and its partnership with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County STEM Conference.

Company professionals recently reported at the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.’s annual Women and Girls Conference that many of their full-time careers with Estée Lauder resulted from the completion of the company’s R&D summer internship.

"If, in sharing our thoughts, we've helped even one of these students to consider and pursue a career in STEM, I would consider it a big success," said Sharon Mesfen, Estée Lauder fellow in advanced technology pioneering.

Estée Lauder has focused on innovation throughout several aspects of its business operations. It was an early adopter of Google Cloud to support its AI-powered tech strategy, improving digital experiences and informing R&D efforts for the brand. They also became an early partner of OpenAI's generative AI platform.
