Nestlé is taking the next step in a pilot exploring alternative packaging through refillable cereal vending machines.

Nestlé say they are piloting VR in product development, experimenting with tools and technologies that will enable them to create and quickly test product prototypes in Web3 and the metaverse.

In an effort to reduce plastic packaging, Nestlé will pilot paper-wrapped versions of their four-bar KitKat chocolates across select stores in Australia. The trial will run for a limited time exclusively in Cole’s grocery stores.

The move aligns with the company’s previously announced plans to further invest in its e-commerce and consumer data capabilities.   

Nestlé is taking steps to address child labor in cocoa production and increase supply chain traceability with a new program that includes paying farmers cash for such things as enrolling their children in school.

The “lift and learn” technology uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to identify which products are being handled through such techniques as object recognition, gesture recognition and vector analysis.
