Ce De Candy Improves Manufacturing Operations, Meets FDA Regulations
Ce De Candy Inc., manufacturer and distributor of Smarties, implements an enterprise mobility solution from Motorola Inc. and PartnerSelect Solution Provider Portable Technology Solutions (PTS) to meet the FDA's new Food Bioterrorism regulation while also increasing the efficiency and accuracy of manufacturing processes throughout its supply chain and warehouse. The FDA regulation required that food manufacturers maintain records that allow complete traceability for all raw goods and manufactured products by June 2006. To meet the critical mandate, Ce De implemented a mobility solution consisting of the Motorola MC9000 rugged mobile computer running PTS' TracerPlus software, as well as the Motorola WS5100 Wireless Switch, AP300 Access Ports and the ES3000 with Power over Ethernet (PoE) Switch. The solution was configured to existing processes at Ce De Candy within one week, with full deployment being finalized within the following four weeks. "We needed a solution that would allow us to comply with the FDA mandate, but at the same time, not disrupt the manufacturing processes we already had in place," says Rick DePinto, IT manager for Ce De Candy. "The Motorola/PTS enterprise mobility solution met our firm timing and budget requirements, increased our productivity, and improved data quality and process efficiencies, while providing the superior ruggedness that is essential in our warehouse environment."
