BJ’s Offers Top Toys for the Holidays

BJ’s Wholesale Club is luring holiday shoppers to its stores by offering exclusive toys from leading brands.

The warehouse club first began touting the assortment in September when it released its "Exclusive Top Ten Toys List” in its Stocked digital member journal. The lineup includes new SKUs from Mattel’s Barbie; Hasbro’s Play-Doh, Nerf and Baby Alive; and Disney Pixar’s Cars 3 that are only available through the retailer.

An Oct. 13 email heralded the toys’ arrival in stores, though select items were available online in advance of that date. The SKUs were stocked on custom pallet displays denoting their status as “top ten toys.” Facebook and Twitter updates further plugged the toys.

BJ’s also enlisted several YouTube influencers to film sponsored videos showcasing the products (see below); some also ran giveaways for subscribers.

Black Friday

BJ’s also got a head start on Black Friday by offering Instant Savings and digital coupons on big-ticket items such as TVs, mobile phones, speaker systems and other electronics starting Nov. 17 and continuing through Thanksgiving weekend in stores and on bjs.com. Most online purchases were eligible for free shipping. The retailer also dangled 15% off all toys from Nov. 16-19, plugging the offer in an email.

Stores opened early at 7 a.m. on Nov. 24. The retailer also teamed with Starbucks to offer samples of the manufacturer’s Christmas blend coffee to early morning shoppers that day. A Facebook update supported.

Daily emails plugged the Black Friday deals, while social media updates focused on new items in stores as well as private-label food items for Thanksgiving meals.

Cyber Week

The retailer continued to offer savings and free shipping with a Cyber Monday event, as well as additional savings that run through Dec. 2, including:

  • $160 off a Samsung 40-inch Smart TV
  • $110 off a KitchenAid Professional mixer
  • $70 off a Samsonite luggage set
  • $40 off a HP Chromebook

Most of the deals were available for online purchases only, but select items could be bought in stores as well. Numerous emails promoted the event while also plugging the retailer’s new mobile app.

Elsewhere in stores, the retailer is spotlighting giftables across a variety of categories ranging from apparel to pet care to electronics. National pallet displays from Hallmark Cards and McCormick & Co. round out the seasonal atmosphere.
