Backus-Sabmiller Strengthens Processing Capacity
Backus-Sabmiller, Peru's largest beer company, needed to rethink its infrastructure in order to optimize its cost efficiency, provide scalability for its corporate growth plans and guarantee the high availability of its business operations. After an initial evaluation, the company decided that IBM's technology offering was the solution that best met the company's need to strengthen its processing capacity.
"IBM's commitment to the process with Backus and, particularly, its efforts, were the reasons why we selected it. The leading-edge technology solution we have acquired from IBM was aimed at strengthening our processing capacity, which is a non-core area for Backus," says Gustavo Noriega, CIO, Backus-Sabmiller.
The solution is based on 35 BladeCenter servers, 2 System x3755 servers, 2 System Storage DS4800 devices and 5 TS3200 libraries, which combined offer the client the opportunity to upgrade its IT infrastructure, with the following value added: flexibility, adaptable to changing workloads; simple administration, focused on providing processing, disk and tape resources on demand; operational continuity enabled by a remote contingency scheme and optimum response time in user applications.
Backus-Sabmiller has gained a competitive advantage with the acquisition of an IBM BladeCenter that uses up to 50 percent less floor space and up to 35 percent less energy than competitor rack servers without sacrificing performance.
