Top 50 Green Power Companies

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named the 50 green power partners using electricity generated from renewable resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and low-impact hydropower.
 
Johnson & Johnson is the only consumer goods company to land in the Top 10, with green power accounting for 39 percent of its total electricity use. The top spot belongs to Intel Corporation, which by comparison, claims that 51 percent of its total electronicy use is generated via green power.
 
In total, 10 consumer goods and retail organizations landed in the Top 50. They are:

No. 3 Whole Foods Market
No. 6 Johnson & Johnson
No. 12 Wal-Mart Stores/Calif. And Texas Facilities
No. 16 Starbucks
No. 22 Kimberly-Clark Corporation
No. 29 Staples
No. 34 Loweâââ¬ââ¢s
No. 38 The Dannon Company
No. 40 Safeway
 
The Green Power Partnership's top purchasers use more than 12 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, equivalent to the annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the electricity use of more than 1 million average American homes. Nearly a quarter of the top 50 partners have increased their green power purchases since April, which lends to the accelerated development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide.
 
EPA's Green Power Partnership works with more than 1,200 partner organizations to voluntarily purchase green power to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use. Overall, EPA's green power partners are using more than 17 billion kWh of green power annually, equivalent to the CO2 emissions from electricity use of more than 1.5 million average American homes.
