Metro Group Embarks on Large RFID Rollout
Metro Group is in the midst of deploying the largest production-scale RFID rollout in Europe using a network of RFID tags, readers and the Tag Acquisition Processor (TAP) from Reva Systems to produce accurate tag data from each site and provide rapid operator feedback. Initially, Metro Group is using RFID to enhance its distribution and store receiving processes by using tag data for more efficient operations, better customer service and improved inventory management. As it develops, Metro Group will use the RFID architecture to optimize the supply chain. Metro is using the RFID network in all three of its operations: Metro Cash & Carry, Real stores and Metro Group distribution centers. "Reva offers a high-performance RFID infrastructure product that could satisfy our rollout requirements. By using this technology, we are moving RFID out of the innovation labs and into working retail stores," says Dr. Gerd Wolfram, managing director of MGI Metro Group Information Technology. "The efficiency, manageability and performance improvement we've demonstrated with Reva's technology as part of our RFID architecture allows us to realize our plan for utilizing RFID technology to optimize the supply chain."
