Levi Strauss Deploys RFID in 40 Retail Outlets

Levi Strauss & Co. is expanding its RFID strategy to improve inventory management and enrich the customer purchasing experience by expediting the checkout process -- especially during peak seasons. For this application, the brand-name apparel marketer with sales in more than 110 countries required a unique, cost-effective solution that offered high performance, reliability, an ergonomic design and easy integration capabilities.

UHF readers from TAGSYS, a global provider of item-level RFID infrastructure, fit the bill and will be deployed in 40 Levi Strauss retail outlets in Mexico. The TAGSYS reader combines UHF reader technology with a unique embedded antenna design that inventories multiple stacked garments while not erroneously reading nearby items -- a critical requirement in point-of-sale applications. Grupo Hasar, system integrator for the project and TAGSYS partner, is performing the software integration into the back-end system and deploying the overall solution.

"We are very pleased to be working with TAGSYS for our latest RFID deployment," says Abel Garcia, director IT Mexicoof Levi Strauss. "We appreciate the innovation behind each of TAGSYS' solutions, which inevitably will help to enhance the effectiveness of our RFID implementation."
