The Kraft Heinz Company has become an early adopter of UNFI Insights, an open data platform created by grocery wholesaler United Natural Foods (UNFI) and analytics provider Crisp, providing sales, inventory, and deduction data through natural and conventional channels for UNFI suppliers.

The platform is designed to provide value-added insights exclusively through the MyUNFI.com supplier portal to bolster marketing and merchandising efforts, including category and store suggestions, voids, fill rates, and deduction and food waste dashboards.

The measures are expected to help CPG companies track sales and inventory levels while using the data within platforms like Excel, Tableau, and Power BI, along with cloud-based tools like Databricks and Snowflake.

“Kraft Heinz is committed to building a single data hub to power digital transformation initiatives and use a single source of truth for the analytics that power our daily decisions,” explained Stefanie McNansky, customer VP-UNFI at Kraft Heinz, in a statement. “UNFI Insights, powered by Crisp, should help us drive category growth by accessing category-level data and pushing the latest available distribution and sales data directly into our Snowflake cloud data platform."

She noted that having ready access to the data across the enterprise is expected to reduce out-of-stocks to improve both retail and consumer experiences.

UNFI Insights intends to provide CPGs greater control over their supply chain through on-hand inventory dashboards, reducing the risk of out-of-stock products. With food waste a significant issue for many CPGs, the platform contains an actionable spoilage dashboard to monitor short-dated inventory, helping brands better monitor products nearing expiration.

“Leveraging our scale, focusing on investments in technology, and enhancing connectivity with and market visibility for our suppliers is expected to lead to better overall service levels for our retail customers and differentiate UNFI in a competitive marketplace,” said John Raiche, executive VP of supplier services at UNFI.
