Great Start for Apple Watch

7/29/2015
Apple posted revenue of $49.6 billion and quarterly net profit of $10.7 billion for its fiscal 2015 third quarter. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said the "amazing quarter" included "a great start for Apple Watch."

When the Apple Watch launched in April, top retailers raced to launch Apple Watch apps.  Currently there are over 8,500 third-party apps available for Apple Watch. Within services, the company noted its App Store produced its best quarter ever with revenue growing 24%. During the quarter, mobile traffic to Apple's online stores equaled desktop traffic for the first time ever, thanks to the company's Apple Store app.

Apple will release watchOS 2 to customers in the fall.

"With Apple watchOS 2, developers now have the ability to build richer and more powerful native apps for Apple Watch, taking advantage of the heart rate sensor, the Digital Crown, accelerometer and more, ushering in a whole new class of apps designed specifically for the wrist," said Cook.

"Sales of the Watch did exceed our expectations," maintained Cook, "and they did so despite supply still trailing demand at the end of the quarter. And to give you a little additional insight, through the end of the quarter, in fact the Apple Watch sell-through was higher than the comparable launch periods of the original iPhone or the original iPad."
