Brown-Forman, one of the leading producers and marketers of distilled spirits such as Jack Daniels and Southern Comfort, sought to enhance communications and business processes for its employees. Its knowledge workers and production employees had too much information in too many places and it was not organized in ways that enabled employees to find it. To provide employees role-based access to "one version of truth," automate information exchange with distributors, and gain in-house expertise about portal technology and knowledge, Brown-Forman chose the SAP NetWeaver platform and the SAP Enterprise Portal component because of the ability to enhance communications and reduce costs for organizations. It also built a data warehouse using the SAP Business Intelligence component of SAP NetWeaver. This would enable the company to collect and integrate data from a variety of sources for insightful analysis. The solution enabled employees and distributors to ultimately reduce communication and business process costs and employees now have real-time, Web-based access to information.

Fiskars Brands, including Fiskars, Gerber Legendary Blades and Wilkinson Sword tools, can be found in stores, homes and offices throughout the world. With locations in more than 20 countries, information comes in from around the world. The company had disparate systems with no way to integrate data and make it accessible and available for reporting and analysis. The platform it selected also needed to integrate quickly and easily with existing IBM and JD Edwards environments. Burt's Bees, maker of earth-friendly natural personal-care products, implemented Business Objects business intelligence (BI) solutions.and relies on BusinessObjects XI R2 for the latest information on sales, marketing, finance and operations to help manage the company's rapid growth. Burt's Bees sells its products throughout North America at a wide range of retailers and this solution enables it to track market share and sales throughout the supply chain, and to view and understand the frequency in which stores and individual customers are ordering specific products. Burt's Bees also uses Business Objects to deploy functional Balanced Scorecard dashboards for executives to access current key performance indicators. Burt's Bees provides its employees access to the BI initiative through a simple Web interface. The centralized information repository allows the business to quickly obtain accurate numbers for near real-time analysis. Using Business Objects, Burt's Bees is able to ask tough questions and get the necessary answers to make critical business decisions and optimize performance.
