Best Buy Supports Pride Month With Colorful Merch
In support of the designation of June as Pride Month, Best Buy introduced an assortment of rainbow-themed accessories on bestbuy.com.
The accessories include phone cases, Apple watch straps and PopSocket phone grips depicting a range of rainbow designs and colors from brands ArtsCase, Dynex and PopSocket. Not offered in stores, the SKUs are available for delivery and in-store pickup at most locations. Shipping is free for ArtCase items, while Dynex and PopSocket SKUs have a $5.49 delivery fee.
Online support spanned a bestbuy.com home page display ad, a feature in Best Buy's June 17 digital circular, and multiple Facebook and Twitter updates from the retailer’s Best Buy and Best Buy for Good accounts. A June 18 LinkedIn update shared a quote about Pride Month and the retailer's inclusivity from a Best Buy senior recruiter. "Knowing that I can bring my whole self to work and be in a safe space that values everything about who I am is very important to me.”
In addition, a June 4 post on Best Buy’s corporate blog referenced its “longtime” support of equality, its perfect rating of 100 on the annual Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index and its designation as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” for the 13th year in 2018. The post also links back to a Nov. 17, 2017, blog post reporting the achievement.
“This latest recognition from the HRC further affirms Best Buy’s support for LGBTQ equality and our commitment to strengthen a diverse and inclusive employee base, which are fundamental to the company’s own success,” wrote Best Buy staff writer Katlyn Peterson in the November 2017 post.
In July of last year, Best Buy chief executive officer Hubert Joly also signed the “CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion” pledge, which is the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace and has over 270 signatures.
Despite Best Buy’s long proclaimed support of the LGBTQ+ community, this is the retailer’s first year tying in to Pride Month. More brands and retailers are introducing or ramping up their own initiatives as pride accessories and apparel seem to continue increasing in demand.
