Walmart Aligns Home Team Across Brands

By Patrycja Malinowska - 11/01/2017

Walmart has reorganized its home group with two major executive appointments, the retailer announced in a media release.

Scott Doughman takes up the president post at Hayneedle, the online home furnishings retailer acquired by Jet and now owned by Walmart. Meanwhile, Anthony Soohoo is coming on board to fill the newly created position of senior vice president and general manager of the home group across all U.S. e-commerce retail within walmart.com, Jet and Hayneedle.

Doughman replaces Jon Barker, who left Hayneedle in the spring, permanently filling a spot that had been held by vp of technology Ryan Paulson in the interim. Doughman previously was vp of global partnerships at Yahoo!, and also has worked in strategic planning, corporate development and product management roles at Sungard, Booz Allen Hamilton, FedEx and Price Waterhouse.

Soohoo previously was founder and chief executive officer of home furnishing brand Dot & Bo, which shut down in late 2016. He also has served as svp and gm of the entertainment division at CBS Interactive, first joining CBS with its acquisition of Dotspotter, where he was co-founder and ceo. Soohoo also held product and leadership positions at Yahoo!, Inktomi and Apple.

His appointment continues an integrated leadership model that began when Walmart acquired Jet and gave its team the reins to its entire e-commerce business. The retailer also gave most incoming chiefs of its subsequent e-commerce acquisitions (ShoeBuyMoosejawModCloth and Bonobos) responsibility not only for their brand but for the entire related category across all of walmart.com.

"There has been a home team within walmart.com for years, but we are grouping the entire home vertical together for the first time, meaning the home category across hayneedle.com, walmart.com and jet.com, and putting it all under one leader," a Hayneedle spokeswoman told Retail Dive.

"We will push forward in our efforts to expand our home brands and products through a story-centric curated experience that encourages product discovery and engagement," Soohoo said in the release. He will report to Scott Hilton, svp and chief revenue officer of U.S. e-commerce.
