Walmart and Brands Support Midwest Farmers 'for the Future'

Walmart is promoting several food brands in its stores as fellow supporters of sustainable farming practices.Stores across Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska are showcasing "Farming for the Future," a partnership between companies and conservation groups that are members of the Midwest Row Crop Collaborative (MRCC), working with the National FFA Organization and the National Association of Agricultural Educators to teach conservation to the next generation of farmers. Key to the partnership is the creation of an agricultural educational toolkit that will reach 1,000 local students by the end of 2019.The effort spotlights products from MRCC-members that together have provided $50,000 to FFA: Kellogg Co.'s Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, General Mills' Honey Nut Cheerios, PepsiCo/Frito-Lay's Sun Chips, Unilever's Hellmann's and Cargill's Honeysuckle White. MRCC also matched that contribution with another $50,000.In one store, P2PI spotted a side panel outfitting an endcap merchandising Kellogg's products that touts the initiative while depicting the logos of all the participating brands."We're excited to partner with MRCC to bring this work to life with shoppers who we know care a great deal about the environment," said FFA president Molly Ball in a media release.In addition to the aforementioned manufacturers and Walmart — a founding member — other MRCC members include McDonald's, Monsanto, The Nature Conservancy and World Wildlife Fund."Walmart is pleased to work with MRCC and FFA on the Farming for the Future initiative in support of our nation's young, innovative and hardworking farmers," senior vice president for global sustainability at Walmart, Laura Phillips, said in the release.
