Walgreens Evolves Its Category-Wide Offers

Walgreens has introduced a new twist on the category-wide offers that have been a big part of its promotional strategy over the last two years.

From July 29 through Nov. 3, the drug chain is offering a "buy one, get one free" deal on select vitamins and supplements while dangling a "buy one, get one half off" deal on all other SKUs in the category.

Pharmavite's Nature Made, Nature's Bounty Co.'s namesake brand, private label Finest Nutrition and select Walgreens-brand products, along with all joint and heart supplements, have been given "BOGO free" status.

Walgreens introduced the offers with features in its July 29 and subsequent circulars as well as its August coupon book, which hit stores July 29.

In stores, A-boards at store entrances and shelf signage in the aisles promote the offer. Additionally, a Nature's Bounty endcap calls out the BOGO deal. A walgreens.com homepage feature and dedicated landing page support.

These offers complement the retailer's ongoing Vitamin Angels program, in which Walgreens will donate 1% of participating products' sales to the nonprofit from Jan. 1, 2018, through Dec. 31, 2020.

Walgreens' category-based "buy 2, get 3rd free" promotional incentive, which is frequently used throughout the year, was introduced in 2016 and increased in prominence in 2017.
