Target tied in to the May 25 theatrical release of Walt Disney Co.'s Solo: A Star Wars Story by stocking exclusive toys from Funko.
Funko gave the mass merchant exclusive Han Solo and Dryden Gangster Pop! figurines and various Mystery Minis toys. The SKUs rolled out April 13 alongside other licensed merchandise for the film from manufacturers including Hasbro and Lego Group.
In stores, Funko toys and other licensed SKUs enjoy secondary merchandising space via dedicated endcaps outfitted with a header. A promotional page within target.com spotlights the new and exclusive SKUs as well as other licensed merchandise tied to the Star Wars franchise. A feature within the retailer's May 27 circular and a target.com display ad supports.
The retailer also drummed up support for the film's release by promising its REDcard holders a red-colored replica of Star Wars' iconic Millennium Falcon spaceship with the preorder of Solo: A Star Wars Story on Blu-Ray or 4K Ultra HD discs.
Target regularly partners with Funko. Most recently, the mass merchant teamed with the manufacturer to debut an exclusive Funko figurine every Friday in January and February on target.com.
