Target, Funko Roll Out Friday Mystery Toys
Target is kicking off the new year by teaming with Funko to debut an exclusive figurine from the manufacturer every Friday in January and February on target.com.
"Funko Fridays" began Jan. 5 with the launch of a Funko Star Wars collectors box, which included a Funko Pop! figurine and T-Shirt depicting Kylo Ren from Walt Disney Co.'s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. A media release announcing the Funko partnership touted the figurine and shirt ahead of the film's Dec. 15, 2017, theatrical release. The collectors box is currently sold out and unavailable on target.com.
The remaining exclusive Funko SKUs will not be revealed until their debut each Friday. A promotional page on the retailer's website teases the upcoming week's figurine by communicating a clue such as "Next week, you’ll see a familiar face from [Disney's fictional city] Duckburg." The page also depicts logos from Star Wars, Lego Group, Mattel's Barbie, Marvel, Batman, Wonder Woman, Saban's Power Rangers, AMC's The Walking Dead, Kotobukiya and Transformers.
The retailer additionally partnered with Funko to launch an exclusive Funko Pop! Red Classic Stormtrooper figurine Oct. 1, 2017, on target.com. In a rare move for the mass merchant, the figurine was only available to Target REDcard holders. That fall, Funko also gave the mass merchant exclusive products depicting characters from Netflix's Stranger Things.
