P&G to Purchase Wellness Company Thorne

P&G, Thorne

Procter & Gamble has announced plans to acquire health and wellness company Thorne.

Thorne was founded in 1984 and manufactures clinically backed supplements for personalized wellness solutions. According to the company, its product development is guided by an in-house team of doctors, researchers and scientists.

Additionally, it offers an AI-enabled wellness advisor called Taia that is trained on the company's more than 40 years of clinical research, practitioner expertise and educational content. It provides consumers with a chat environment through which they can obtain informed, science-grounded decisions about supplements, ingredients and wellness routines.

According to the Taia platform, it uses AI to help with things such as:

  • Finding Thorne products that fit consumers' health goals.
  • Explaining ingredients and how they support healthy function.
  • Comparing Thorne products.
  • Sharing lifestyle and nutrition guidance from Thorne’s educational resources.
  • Helping consumers refine a supplement routine based on their goals and preferences.

Thorne's products are used by more than 7 million consumers, tens of thousands of health care professionals, thousands of professional athletes, and more than 100 professional sports teams and multiple U.S. national teams, according to Thorne.

“For more than 40 years, Thorne has earned the trust of health care practitioners, consumers and partners by putting science, quality and the people we serve at the center of every decision,” he said in a statement.

The companies expect to finalize the transaction later this year, pending regulatory approval.
