Hannaford Cooks with Mario Batali
Delhaize America's Hannaford is partnering with celebrity chef Mario Batali for a "Mario Batali Home Chef Challenge" contest.
Shoppers who purchased one Mario Batali pasta or sauce along with another eligible product from brands including private label Nature's Place, McCormick & Co.'s flagship and Lindt & Sprungli's Ghirardelli from Oct. 1-28 received a code they could submit along with an original recipe and a story about it through an entry page within hannaford.com.
A panel of judges will choose nine semi-finalists to compete in one of the three "chef challenge" events taking place from Dec. 4-6 in Albany, NY; Burlington, VT; and Portland, ME. The Albany event takes place in a Hannaford store. The semifinalists will prepare their dishes and judges will choose one winner from each event, after which Batali will review and rank the three final recipes.
The grand-prize winner will receive a trip to New York for a meet-and-greet with the chef and dinner at one of his restaurants, along with two tickets to a taping of ABC's The Chew, which stars Batali. The runners-up receive a copy of a Mario Batali cookbook and a $1,000 or $500 store gift card. Southfield, MI-based Prize Logic handles.
Endcap displays promote the contest in stores and merchandise product from qualifying brands. Marketing support also includes circular features, an ad in the September issue of Fresh magazine, email ads, a home page display ad on hannaford.com, and Facebook, Twitter and Instagram updates.
