Walmart is exclusively merchandising "red, white and blue" Sour Patch Kids ice cream manufactured by Nestle's Dreyers with licensing from Mondelez International.
The limited-edition product started rolling out to Walmart stores nationwide in April and will be available through the end of the year, according to reports. It is a mix of lemon sorbet and vanilla ice cream with a "redberry" swirl and chunks of blue gummy candy in a 1.5-quart tub priced at $3.48.
Walmart also is stocking nationally available Sour Patch Kids ice pops from J&J Snack Foods. In at least some stores, the SKU gains prime merchandising space on freezer endcaps.
The mass merchant has been collaborating with manufacturers to deliver one exciting and indulgent frozen treat after another with the goal of enticing consumers into its stores. The lineup includes deep-fried Twinkies from Hostess Brands and Doritos Loaded nachos from PepsiCo/Frito-Lay.
