Best Buy Readies for Holiday Season

By Jacqueline Barba - 10/23/2019

Best Buy is kicking off the holiday season by offering all shoppers (loyalty members or not) free next-day delivery on thousands of items from Oct. 22 through Dec. 25.

This is the first time the consumer electronics retailer has upped the ante on its holiday free-shipping offer to next-day delivery, following a year when retailers including Amazon, Walmart and Target have raised the delivery standard.

Major appliances including big-screen TVs and refrigerators are excluded from Best Buy's offer. However, shoppers who order something not included in the offer or do not live within next-day delivery perimeters will still receive free standard shipping on everything. My Best Buy loyalty members and nonmembers are subject to a $35 minimum purchase threshold to qualify, while My Best Buy Elite and Elite Plus members are not.

Best Buy is also highlighting its same-day delivery and Store Pickup services, often highlighting the fact that more than 70% of Americans live within 10 miles of a Best Buy store and about 40% of online sales are picked up in stores.

A dedicated web page promoting the free shipping offers includes a “holiday order deadlines” table highlighting order-by dates for delivery by Hanukkah (Dec. 22-30), Christmas (Dec. 25) and Kwanzaa (Dec. 26-Jan. 1) to overseas addresses in locations such as Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and to Army or Air Force addresses.

A bestbuy.com home page carousel ad, an Oct. 22 Twitter update and a corporate blog post also promote the seasonal shipping option.

In related news, Best Buy has been rolling out plenty of new products and offers in preparation for the holiday season. Most recently, the retailer launched special deals on Apple products for My Best Buy members:

  • Up to $200 off iPad Pros
  • Up to $200 in savings on select MacBook Pros
  • $20 off Apple Watch Series 5 GPS + Cellular

An ad under “Our Featured Offers” on Best Buy’s home page highlights the “Apple Shopping Event” and directs users to a dedicated web page listing participating deals and products. New deals will be available each week for in-store and online purchases.

Best Buy also just stocked newly launched products from Google including the Pixel 4, dangling a $100 or $150 Best Buy gift card with qualified activations. Earlier this year, the retailer also began merchandising new items that are likely to see the spotlight this holiday season including baby care and nursery technology, senior citizen technology, plus workout equipment and connected fitness items.
